The Container
What a roll-off dumpster is — and why it works
A temporary container that comes to you.
A roll-off dumpster gets its name from the way it's delivered. A specialized truck tilts its bed and lets the steel container roll gently off the back onto the ground. When you're finished, the same truck winches it back up and hauls the debris away. There's no permanent bin, no fixed pickup schedule and no limit on what kind of project it can support.
That flexibility is why roll-off containers are the standard choice when people search for dumpsters for rent. The same basic container serves a homeowner clearing a basement, a business renovating a storefront and a contractor tearing off a roof. What changes is the size, the placement and the type of debris going inside.
Open-top design
No lid to work around, so bulky items like furniture, lumber and carpet rolls go in from above.
Rear swing door
Many roll-off containers have a door at one end, making it easier to walk heavy or awkward items in.
Ground-level placement
The container sits low on its rails, so loading is easier than lifting debris into a truck bed.
How It Works
How roll-off dumpster rental works
The rental process is the same whatever your project. Here's what to expect from first call to final pickup.
Tell us about the job
Call or send the quote form with your project type and the address where the container will go.
Pick a size
We'll recommend a 10, 15 or 20 yard roll-off based on the type and amount of debris.
Schedule and place
Choose a delivery window and confirm exactly where on the property the container should sit.
Load, then call for pickup
Fill the container at your own pace, then let us know when it's ready to be hauled away.

Preparing for delivery day
The truck needs a clear, straight path.
Because the container slides off the back of the truck, the driver needs room to approach in a straight line and enough overhead clearance for the bed to tilt. Before delivery, move cars, trailers and equipment out of the way, and note anything overhead — tree limbs, gutters, power or cable lines — near the placement spot.
Choose a level surface where the container can stay for the length of the rental. Asphalt and concrete are common choices; some customers place boards under the rails for added protection. If you're unsure about a spot, describe it when you call and we'll help you decide.
Roll-Off Sizes
Three roll-off sizes to choose from
Size is measured in cubic yards of volume. A larger number means more room for debris, along with a longer container footprint.

Good Practice
Loading a roll-off container safely
- Keep all debris at or below the top edge of the container walls.
- Distribute heavy materials evenly instead of piling them at one end.
- Close and latch the rear door securely after each use.
- Don't add hazardous materials, liquids or restricted items.
- Keep the area around the container clear for the pickup truck.
A roll-off container suits nearly any project, but business owners and property managers often have different priorities around placement, timing and customer access. Learn how we approach those projects on our commercial dumpster rental page.

FAQ
Roll-off dumpster questions
Have a different question? Call 217-795-9580.
What is a roll-off dumpster?
A roll-off dumpster is a rectangular, open-top steel container designed for temporary projects. It's delivered on a truck with a tilting bed that rolls the container into place, then loads it back up for removal.
How is a roll-off dumpster different from a regular trash bin?
Regular bins are small, permanent containers emptied on a schedule. A roll-off is much larger, rented for a specific project, and removed entirely when you're finished.
How much space does the delivery truck need?
The truck needs room to back up in a straight line, plus enough overhead clearance to tilt its bed. Clear vehicles, trailers and low branches from the approach before delivery, and tell us about any tight spots.
